A good friend and neighbor of ours on our street, the 5900 Block of Lewis, was recently scammed out of money by a young man claiming to be from Woodrow Wilson HS soccer team. It happened like this. In early November, a white teen male, clean cut and very articulate knocked on her door and said he was with the Woodrow Wilson Soccer Team. He was selling books and Magazines through a fundraising company called Ultimate Power Sales out of Sugar Hill, Georgia. He claimed to be new to the neighborhood and lived "around the corner." He showed her a sign up sheet with other names from the neighborhood. Ms. Smith (not her real name) proceeded to buy over $100.00 worth of magazines and books for Christmas. The young man said delivery would be in early December. When the time arrived and the books had not, Ms. Smith called Woodrow Wilson HS only to find out that the soccer team was not doing a fundraiser. Ms. Smith did find out her check had cleared and attempted to contact Ultimate Power Sales directly to no avail. She later went on the internet only to find out that this company was listed on www.ripoffreport.com. She was extremely disappointed that someone representing a school where her son had once attended was using it to scam people out of hard earned money during the holidays.
Sincerely,
Victor R. Aves
